What? You want me to scooch in closer to this old guy so he can pet me? I don’t think so. There’s a garbage can right there and I must stick my head in it. Hey, I’ve got to drag you over to that teeny weeny little crumb on the floor that you can’t even see, because it’s just gotta go into my mouth. No way. I can’t stand next to this wheel chair and be still for a gentle pet. I must follow the food cart looking cute and perhaps I’ll get something for my effort.

I wanted to give my dog Moze away when we went t-doggen’ (short for going out to visit the elderly) at Cooney Convelescant this week!!!! He just couldn’t focus.

Since Timbre arrived three years ago, Moze has kind of taken it in the shorts. He wasn’t connected that day, because he wasn’t connected to me. I wasn’t spending enough time with him, and the evidence was noticed by people who treat me like someone they have never met, everytime we meet…… So, Moze and I are back to the basics. Hand feeding and taking time to play and incorporate obedience into it. Every day. Doesn’t take long, and the pay off is immense!

My dogs are a mirror of myself at times. And what I saw in my dog mirror, is that I’m a lot like Moze. I’m not as hairy as he is, and I don’t shut down when going through 12 weave poles at a trial, but there many days and weeks when I don’t focus on God. I don’t spend time in the Word and I don’t spend time with other Christians. I lose perspective.

I’m so glad I have my dogs!

When traveling, my youngest dog, Timbre, does not like to get into her crate, which is in the back of the car. I have to first catch her, pick her up as she is turning as stiff as a board, and persuade her to get into her crate. If she rides in the front with me, she flies into the car and faster than the speed of light she is sitting in the passenger seat and is ready to rock ‘n roll. I believe that she actually would drive if I would let her.

When I think about it, I have the very same attitude. I don’t ride in the back of my car in a crate, but there are many times when I don’t want to have to get into my mental crate, and just “be safe”. I want to either be at the end of the ride or in the front seat where the action is. It’s hard for me to be still and know that God is God, and that He is taking me where I need to be going. That the ride itself will help mold me into becoming the woman I want to be in the eyes of my heavenly Father.

That is when I’m SO glad that God is patient with me.
